Why wear a dental retainer?
Replacement dental retainers are not just for keeping your teeth straight after orthodontic treatment. There are many reasons why one would want or need to wear the Essix Plus dental retainers including protection from teeth shifting due to oral surgery, to prevent teeth flattening/shortening, and to use as a “dual function” device to prevent damage from teeth grinding while keeping the teeth in position. Remember, teeth can shift at any age.
Dental retainers don’t last forever. At some point, you will need to get a new set of dental retainers.
Why would I need replacement dental retainers?

What’s the difference between purchasing online and going through my orthodontist?
There are several differences including process and cost. Purchasing replacement dental retainers online allows you to skip the dental appointment and take your dental impressions in the comfort of your own home. However, you’re responsible for taking your own dental impressions. An excellent dental impression is imperative for the crafting of a great fitting dental retainer.
I have a permanent retainer. Can I still use these?
Yes! As long as your permanent retainer is securely in place and not loose in any way, you are good to go.
How long do I have before my teeth start to shift? Your teeth are at their most vulnerable state right after orthodontic treatment has been completed. It’s important to wear your dental retainers as instructed by your orthodontist for as long as he/she/they recommend.
What is an Essix Plus Dental Retainer? Why is it better? The Essix Plus Dental Retainer material is made to withstand the effects of grinding and clenching. This is an added benefit when compared to the standard Essix Dental Retainer material. If you need to keep your teeth from shifting as well as prevent damages from grinding and clenching, this may be the option for you.
