The companies differ more in what happens after that starting point. Sentinel offers several distinct guard materials and appliance designs, publishes the exact construction of its core night guards and individually hand-finishes each appliance. There is substantial overlap between Sentinel and Remi.
Both companies:

- provide an at-home impression pathway
- manufacture their custom guards in the United States
- provide prepaid return shipping for the impression process
- offer HSA/FSA purchasing options
- provide support when customers need help with impressions or fit
Remi also offers complimentary one-on-one video guidance with a dental professional for customers who want assistance taking their impressions.
Sentinel provides impression review and one complimentary replacement impression kit when needed within its fit-resolution process.
The biggest product difference: one guard system vs. several constructions
Sentinel and Remi take different approaches to product choice.
Remi
Remi's current custom night guard system is available in 1 mm, 1.3 mm and 2 mm thicknesses.
That makes the buying experience relatively simple: select Remi's night guard, complete the impression process, and choose the thickness appropriate for the intended use.
Sentinel
Sentinel separates thickness from material construction. Customers currently choose among:
- Comfort Guard — 2 mm soft EVA
- Hybrid Guard — EVA interior + copolyester exterior
- Hard Guard — 2 mm rigid copolyester
- Durability Guard — 3 mm rigid copolyester
- No-Show Day Guard — dedicated daytime clenching design
This matters because thickness and material are not interchangeable. A thicker flexible appliance does not become the same product as a rigid copolyester guard, and a fully rigid guard does not feel the same as a dual-layer construction.

Material transparency
Remi publishes meaningful information about what is not in its night guards.
Its current product and FAQ pages describe the guard as being made from patented premium dental-grade material and state that it is free from BPA, phthalates, methyl methacrylate, acrylic, latex, gluten and silicone.
What Remi does not currently identify on its core product page is the exact polymer or material manufacturer used in the finished night guard.
Sentinel publishes the actual material construction
Sentinel goes one step further by identifying the materials used in each appliance.
Current Sentinel night guards use:
- Keystone Pro-Form NiteGuard EVA for soft construction
- Keystone Pro-Form Splint copolyester for rigid construction
- EVA + copolyester in the Hybrid Guard
Sentinel also publishes a detailed material exclusion list, including BPA, BPS, MMA, PVC, phthalates, latex and silicone.

Hand finishing and scalloped borders
Custom fabrication does not end when material is formed over a model of the teeth.
Sentinel technicians individually trim, shape and polish each guard after forming. The borders are also scalloped to follow the contours of the dental anatomy rather than leaving an unnecessarily uniform edge.
Scalloping gives the finished appliance a cleaner, more tailored outline and allows the technician to refine how much material remains around individual teeth and the gumline.
Remi states that its guards are fabricated by technicians in its U.S. laboratory. We did not locate a comparable public description of a specific scalloped-border finishing process, so we would not claim that Remi never contours or hand-finishes its appliances. The distinction is that Sentinel explicitly documents and shows this finishing step.
Digital dental scans: both companies now accept STL files
This is an important update from older versions of this comparison.
Remi now states that customers who already have a recent STL dental scan from a dentist or aligner provider may send the file to Remi by email for review and approval.
Sentinel also accepts existing digital dental records, but its published workflow currently supports qualifying STL and PLY files.
Sentinel customers can choose the digital-scan pathway when ordering and submit the file for laboratory review instead of taking another physical impression.

So an existing STL file is no longer a Sentinel-only advantage. The current distinction is that Sentinel publicly supports more than one open file format and has built digital-scan ordering into its standard customer workflow.
Turnaround time
Standard laboratory production is one of Sentinel's clearer differences.
Sentinel
Sentinel typically fabricates a custom night guard within 3–5 business days after an acceptable impression or digital scan is received and approved.
Expedited laboratory production is also available.
Remi
Remi's current FAQ and shipping information describe standard laboratory processing at approximately 14 business days after approved impressions arrive.
Remi also sells Rush Lab service, which currently reduces laboratory processing to approximately 4 business days.
Remi additionally offers specialized expedited ordering products for customers who need an appliance particularly quickly, so customers should compare the specific service being purchased rather than assuming every Remi order follows the same timeline.
Satisfaction guarantees
Both companies begin their satisfaction periods when the finished guard is received, but Sentinel currently provides the longer standard window.
Sentinel: 100-Day Satisfaction Guarantee
Sentinel allows a customer to request a refund within 100 days of receiving the finished guard.
Fit-related concerns may also enter Sentinel's defined Three-Attempt Fit Resolution process, which can include adjustments, remakes and one complimentary replacement impression kit in any combination.
If the fit issue remains unresolved after those attempts, the current policy provides for a refund less the standard $23 impression-kit and shipping deduction.
Remi: 45-Night Perfect Fit Guarantee
Remi's current formal refund policy is more generous than the name “Perfect Fit Guarantee” might suggest.
Remi states that if a customer is dissatisfied with the night guard for any reason, the customer should contact the company within 45 days of receipt. Remi says it will make things right by creating another guard or refunding the order.
For fit issues specifically, Remi asks the customer to provide photos and a description and may make adjustments, remake the appliance or send another impression kit.

Product warranties after the satisfaction period
Satisfaction guarantees and product warranties are different protections.
Sentinel currently provides separate craftsmanship warranties of:
- 1 year — Hard, Hybrid and Durability Night Guards
- 6 months — Comfort and No-Show Day Guards
Those warranties cover qualifying defects in materials and workmanship under the published terms.
We did not locate a separate long-term craftsmanship warranty for Remi's custom night guard beyond its currently published 45-night night-guard guarantee.
Remi Club vs. buying guards individually
Remi's subscription model is one of its most distinctive advantages.
Remi currently advertises its Club option with two initial custom night guards for $99, followed by replacement guards for $89 every six months. Customers can pause, skip or cancel the recurring schedule.
Remi also states that Club members can receive fresh impressions when dental work changes their anatomy.
That model can be particularly attractive to someone who likes Remi's appliance and prefers replacing guards on a recurring schedule.
Sentinel's model is different. Customers choose a specific guard construction and generally purchase that appliance individually rather than entering an automatic replacement program.
Customer support during impressions
Both companies recognize that an accurate dental impression is critical.
Remi offers a complimentary one-on-one video walkthrough with a dental professional to guide customers through taking the impression.
Sentinel reviews impression quality before fabrication and can request photos or a new impression when the record does not adequately capture the anatomy required for the appliance.
A Sentinel option Remi currently does not offer: the No-Show Day Guard
Nighttime grinding is not the only reason someone may want a protective appliance.
Sentinel's No-Show Day Guard is a separate appliance designed specifically around daytime clenching and speech considerations.
At the time of this review, we did not locate a comparable dedicated daytime clenching design in Remi's current product lineup.
Which company may suit you better?
Sentinel may be especially appealing if you:
- want to choose between soft, hard, hybrid and 3 mm rigid constructions
- have previously worn rapidly through softer material
- want the exact polymer and construction of your guard identified
- want standard laboratory production of approximately 3–5 business days
- prefer a 100-day satisfaction period
- want a separate 6-month or 1-year craftsmanship warranty
